Testing

Where can I take my road test?

Make an appointment at drive.mn.gov. Note that AAA does not administer road test.

Do you offer the permit test at AAA?

Yes. The SLP DMV is located in our building to take the permit test.  The test is available to take with no appointments.  If you are under the age of 18, you must be registered for behind-the-wheel driving lessons before taking the test.

General

Do you offer senior driver assessments or re-examination?

We do not offer assessments or re-examinations. Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers assessments if you are required or interested in a driving assessment. To make an appointment or for more information, call 612-262-7855.

What is your refund policy?

Individual driving lessons expire three months after purchase and are non-refundable.  Packaged lessons will expire six months after purchase and are non-refundable two weeks from purchase.  If package refund is requested within two weeks of purchase, it is refundable minus a $50 processing fee.

Purchases for the Insurance Discount Classes can refunded or moved to a different class if requested.

Insurance Discount Class

How much of a discount will I receive on my insurance for taking the course?

Up to 10%. Contact your insurance carrier with questions about discounts.

How long is the insurance discount class?

4-hours long.  There is no longer an 8-hour class.

Can I take my insurance discount class online?

Yes! You can enroll in an online course for your 4-hour driving class.

Behind-the-Wheel

Do you offer behind-the-wheel pick-ups or drop-offs from home?

Currently, we are not offering pick-ups and drop off at home locations.

What if I'm not ready to take a behind-the-wheel lesson?

In order for us to make adequate progress during the lesson, it is important the driver has practiced and is fully prepared. If the driver does not feel ready for the lesson, you can cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance of the lesson start time by contacting us at 952-927-2602 or drivingschool@aaaminneapolis.com.

What is a Supervised Driving Log and do I need one?

Drivers under age 18 will be required to submit a Supervised Driving Log when they take the road test. Dates, minutes and skills practiced should be recorded in the log after every drive. The State of Minnesota Supervised Driving Log will be the only accepted format.

How long should I wait between driving lessons?

We recommend students to complete 10 hours of practice driving in-between lessons. The three weeks of driving allows the driver time to practice skills learned and prepare for the upcoming lessons.

Can I take behind-the-wheel classes at AAA if I completed my classroom at another driving school?

Yes.  First thing we need is a "Letter of Completion" from where you took your 30 hours of classroom.  Email the "Letter of Completion" to drivingschool@aaaminneapolis.com and we will send you a link to enroll.  After enrollment, we will activate the account and you will get a link to enroll for the lessons.  We will also create an "electronic blue card" and you will be able to take the permit test if needed.

Will anyone else be in the car for my driving lessons?

No.  Lessons are private. Occasionally, another AAA Minneapolis employee may observe a lesson for training purposes.
